"Fire on the Mountain"

In chapter two " Fire on the Mountain", the boys return from their venture on the island. They gather back down at the platform for a meeting, and they explain how they seen a pig, but it got away. Jack promised "next time". The meeting was about how there were no grownups and ralph said that there will be rules. One rule is that whoever is holding the conch gets to talk , and until another person who wants to speak gets the conch everyone is to listen. There was a little boy with a birthmark on his face that needed to say something. He came foward but was frightened to death so he could not speak. He finaly spoke of how he seen "the beastie". Then Ralph and Jack argued that there was no beastie on the island. From there they talked about what they needed to do next: build a fire for resuce purposes. Ralph and Jack lead the way as the boys followed them up the mountain to build a fire, and once they got up to the mountain they used Piggy's specs to start the fire. Then they argued over Piggy speaking. They were rude to Piggy, as usual. The fire was big and full of flames; as the littluns worked to help bring wood ,Piggy noticed the small boy with the birthmark on his face was nowhere to be seen. Then a tree in the fire exploded and the boys shrieked " the snakes, the snakes!". They continued on about the little boy that was nowhere to be seen.

"The Sound of the Shell"

In the first chapter, The sound of the shell, Ralph and Piggy find themselves on an island with "no grownups!" Ralph has a very dominant personality while Piggy is more laid back and babbles a lot. As Ralph and Piggy mingle, all Piggy talks about is his auntie. Ralph doesnt find this very admiring. They dont know for sure what has happened, besides a plan crash, and as far as they know theyre the only ones on the island. As the boys traveled down the scar they came to a beach. Ralph decided he was going to go swimming, but Piggy did not join because he said he couldnt due to his asthma. Finally Piggy stripped naked and went swimming as well. Piggy noticed a conch in the water. They thought it was a stone but Ralph noitced it because his dad used to use one. Once they figured how to sound the conch, they sounded it and it drew children to the platform ,and then a whole chorus came to the platform. They had a "meeting" there were twins, eric and sam and sam and eric. The leader of the chorus was Merridew. They decided to figure out what they were going to do so they chose Ralph as chief, and Merridew and Simon tagged along to discover more of what the "island" really was. Johnny was still to be in charge of the chorus; they were going to be the army aka hunters. The three of them told everyone else to stay behind while they went a searched further, but Piggy really wanted to go. Of course, they made fun of his name "Piggy" and made him stay back. As they ventured more around the island they saw many animals, trees, etc. They went to the top of the mountain to see all sides around the mountain were water, and that there was a coral reef. When they headed back they talked of how they were hungry, and coincidentaly they found a pig stuck in some creepers. They did not kill the pig because at the moment they didnt know what to do and how to do it, but they knew that if that were to happen again they could kill it for food. After this they set back to the "meeting".
